Right-of-Way Permits

Right-of-Way Permits

The Building Department requires a right-of-way permit for any work within the public right-of-way, which is typically the area between, and including, the sidewalks on each side of the street. • Sanitary or water service repairs in the right-of-way.
  • Public utility installation, i.e., electric, gas, telephone, cable TV
  • Cases where construction equipment or dumpsters need temporary use of the right-of-way.

There is an administrative reimbursement fee for work done in the public right-of-way. The fees are:

  • $175 for excavation under pavement, or 12 inches or more, below grade
  • $30 for "surface work," not under street pavement, such as sidewalk or drive approach replacement
  • $30 for construction equipment, or dumpster permit
